In February 2000, Grampian Television launched a brand new look, with a collection of specially filmed idents.
This section takes a guided tour of these small films and their cast of characters!
Each of the images below contain a montage of an ident; the transmitted sequence is from bottom-left, clockwise to bottom right. If you would like to view the images in more detail, click on the image for a closer look.
Although we hope to gradually upload RealVideo samples of many of these idents, for now we hope that you will enjoy looking at this gallery and then watching out for the idents as they are shown on Grampian Television.

First off, we have Waitress which is
also my personal favourite. There are at least three
versions; will she smile or won't she? These images are
taken from the one when she did smile! Something to look out for when you see these idents is that each of them has different blue sparkles as the logo is drawn; the sparkles often fit in with the picture (see the glowing sky in Horse, below). I think this is very nice touch. |
This one is called Horse, but it's not just a horse; there's a lady in it too. It must be one of the favourites of the designers, as they created a whopping six different edits, plus the mini-idents Grass, Beach and Waves all from this set of images. |
|
|
This is Grass, a very short ident which is basically an edit taken from the end of one of the Horse variants. This is a very commonly seen ident. |
Castle features a view of Dunottar Castle, which is located in Stonehaven near Aberdeen. There are two variations of this ident; the other opens with a clearer view of the castle than is seen here. |

This is not called 'Washing Line', but is in fact Tweed - a celebration of the ancient traditional Scottish craft of... well, tweed... There are two versions of this one, and both are as rivetting as you see here. (Sorry, watching tweed being aired is not one of my hobbies!) |
Ah, this is more like it. These are the Old Men who are responsible for making the tweed - see, there it is again. And once they've finished a hard day's tweeding, they head merrily off down the road to nowhere for a wee dram. There are three versions of this one - one for each old man, no doubt. |

Whoever said regional identity was dead? Here we have some Rigs (actually one rig and a ship, but we'll not quibble). There are three versions of this ident. |
Of course, Scotland (er, I mean Grampian region) is renowned for its cuisine, and here is a real Scottish Chef to cook some for us. Bearing a striking similarity to the old PIF about the chip pan catching fire, this ident exists in two variations. (He doesn't look quite so happy in one of them). |

Know any good Celtic Girl jokes? This one comes in five different variants. Keep an eye on those two doggies; we'll be seeing more of them later! (By the way, Gaelic for 'doggie' is cù). |
Yes folks, it's those crazy canine characters previously seen in Celtic Girl (see above). Thanks to a shortened edit of that ident that removes all of the girl except her feet, they now get to star in their very own ident: Dogs. |
|
For some reason, this one also reminds me of a PIF; probably the one about dancing round the house switch all the lights off. Anyway, this is called Tea Dance and comes in three different variations, one of which is quite long and has a whole cast of revellers. This ident also gave rise to a spin-off mini-ident entitled Glitter Ball. |
| Finally, here's the new Break Bumper that was launced with these new idents. In the past, Grampian have dispensed with their break bumper fairly soon after launch; let's hope this one hangs around for while yet. |
